Best Practices for Instructors

Course Description

Think about the best class you ever attended. What made it a great class? What did the instructor do that was different from other instructors? This course covers the practical knowledge and skills instructors need to teach classes in a corporate environment. The focus of this class is on the best practices surrounding four critical areas: preparation, delivery, classroom activities and media. The basics of learning theory are lightly discussed throughout. In addition, we will explore how the 16 emotional intelligence competencies play a role in your growth as an instructor.

Objectives

By the end of this course, the participant will be able to:

  • Describe the attributes of a great instructor
  • List the seven preparation activities that are the foundation of a great class
  • Identify the emotional intelligence competencies that contribute delivering great training
  • Explain the importance of using transition statements
  • Create a 1st day checklist
  • Incorporate great ice breaking techniques, games and other activities
  • Describe proven techniques to deal with challenges such as alignment issues and difficult students
  • Use media effectively in a classroom
  • Facilitate or present a 20-minute course using instructor best practices
